Bamboo Plant Care

The bamboo plant is probably one of the coolest plants ever. It looks like a tree, is actually a grass, brings to life many kung-fu vibes and, if you don’t look out, will grow as a weed. The bamboo plant is perfect either if it is in your garden or in a pot on your TV. The oriental feel is there immediately and they are actually quite simple to tend to, let me give you some simple tips for your bamboo plant care.

Bamboo plant care tip #1

First of all, you need to choose your bamboo plant. Although looks are important, I will not try to make you chose one look over another. Here it is more important which kind you want. First of all it needs to be suited for the climate in which you live, ask at your local garden store for plants that are good for your home or garden. They are experts on bamboo plant care and you should listen to their advice. You also need to choose if you want clumping bamboo or running bamboo. This choice will very much affect the need of your bamboo plant care as shown in the next tip.

Bamboo plant care tip #2

Clumping bamboo is great for outdoor planting because that will mean much less bamboo plant care and more time for you to enjoy the oriental vibes. If you still want running bamboo you are going to have to learn it works. Running bamboo gets its name from being a very sneaky plant. Once planted its root system will start to spread and find new spots for it to grow. Left unattended these plants may very well become a forest and therefore strain your knowledge in bamboo plant care. The best way to avoid this from happening is to encase the soil of your bamboo plants, either with strong plastics or with concrete. If you want you can otherwise be cutting through the ground around your bamboo plant once and awhile using a shovel. This will cut the running roots from the main root system and render them powerless. Problem occurs if you miss a runner root or two, you should never neglect your bamboo plant care. Anyhow, indoor you are able to choose from both types of bamboo, no worries that the running bamboo will sneak off and start a colony under your bed.

Bamboo plant care tip #3

Before the bamboo plant really gets rooted it will require a lot of water, the soil should be moist at all times. Once growing, the bamboo is much sturdier and will survive even the most severe dry period. For great bamboo plant care, give your bamboo plant some grey water once and awhile. It really enjoys the combination of water and nutrition. Speaking of which, being such a fast grower as bamboo usually is, remember to fertilize it regularly. This will be an excellent proof of great bamboo plant care and make your bamboo thrive into the cool oriental kung-fu plants as we know them. Otherwise it isn’t much to it. Enjoy!
