Bamboo Plant Food

Although the giant panda bear eats more or less everything on the bamboo plant for us humans, it is usually just the shoots that are interesting. The delicious shoots are a wonderful addition to any oriental food you might want to cook up. So remember to always have some bamboo plant food at home, you will never know when you will need it.

Bamboo plant food nutrition

The bamboo shoots are a real health-saver being as low on fat and calories as it is. Also being full of fibers, this bamboo plant food is good for your bowel movements and will help keep your cholesterol levels at a reasonable level.

The bamboo shoot is also rich on lignan that are of interest for lots of research, being an agent of antifungal, antiviral, antibacterial and, believe it or not, anticancer properties.

Bamboo plant food harvest

The bamboo is a grass-like plant that in many cases might seem like it is a tree because it is woody appearance and its ability to grow high and sturdy. The bamboo shoots are harvested when they are only two weeks old, or below one-foot tall, and are still soft. The bamboo shoot food has a texture rich of fibers and but is not suitable to eat raw because it has a tendency to taste somewhat bitter.

Bamboo plant food storage

The bamboo shoots are usually known to come canned to your local supermarket to be brought home to your cabinet shelf. This product is meant to last and there will be no point in explaining exactly for how long. The bamboo plant food will most probably be eaten before it expires anyway. Of course fresh bamboo shoots taste a lot better and have a great texture, if you can buy fresh locally, try to do so. You will never go backed to the canned kind again. Fresh bamboo shoots last for up to four months if kept in the crisp drawer of your refrigerator and kept out of sunlight. Keep the bamboo plant food unpeeled until the last moment to ensure a healthy storage.

Bamboo plant food cooking

Bamboo shoots directly out of the can are no real problem, open the can and dunk the bamboo food plant directly into what you are cooking. Fresh bamboo shoots though, are something different. First you will need to peel and cut the bamboo shoot into reasonable large pieces. The bamboo plant food will then need to be boiled in water for 20 minutes and be sure to use an uncovered pan because this will allow the bitterness to evaporate into the air. This bamboo plant food can not be used fresh because it then has a bitter taste to it. You might wonder why you would want to go through so much trouble when you just can buy a can of the stuff at your local marketplace. It is because the taste and feel of fresh bamboo shoots couldn’t even start to be compared with the canned stuff. Try it once and I’ll assure that you will be surprised!
